2026 Rooftop Requirements

In order to apply, the individual or family must meet ALL of the requirements:

  • live in Davidson County, TN.
  • have a lease or mortgage in their name.
  • the total balance due is under $2,500.  The balance should include all fees, including attorney fees.  Note: on the 25th of the month, the next month's payment will be added to the balance.
  • can document a recent one-time hardship that is preventing you from making a rent or mortgage payment
  • can document the ability to pay the next rent or mortgage payment after Rooftop's assistance had ended.  This is done by providing documentation of a monthly income in the home that is twice (2x) the rent or mortgage payment or if in HUD subsidized housing, documenting a rent adjustment. 

Applicants are eligible once in a 12-month period, though assistance is not guaranteed in any case. 

The landlord, rental, or mortgage company will be contacted to verify your balance.  All payments will be made to the property owner or mortgage company.

A Deposit Grant is available for those who meet the criteria above and are moving from homelessness or market-rate rent into income-based MDHA or Section 8.  The grant cannot assist with a deposit when a resident is moving between MDHA or Section 8 properties.  Rooftop does not have deposit grants for market-rate units.

 

All of Rooftop's grants must meet the basic requirements above.  Some restricted grants may require additional documentation or have specific guidelines.
