The “apply now” button can be found at the end of each section. The button disappears when applications are closed. Rooftop cannot address situations outside of the application process.
Immediate Assistance is not Available:
Applications are processed in the order in which they are received.
Funding is available once every 12 months.
Assistance is not guaranteed.
All grants are based on the documentation provided and the funding available.
Funding does not cover:
utilities
other bills (phone, internet, etc.)
balances on households where you don't live
hotels, motels, A&D treatments, halfway houses, single room or short-term rentals
The Application Process
Choose the type of assistance you need: rent, mortgage, or deposit.
Click the “Apply Now” button at the bottom of each page to fill out the online application. The button disappears when applications are closed.
If do not qualify for an existing grant, you will be sent an email with a referral to other resources.
If your application can be considered and you have submitted all documentation, a Rooftop social worker will call you to conduct an interview and may request additional documentation.
Rooftop's case review team meets on Tuesday / Thursday to review applications. Assistance is based on the documentation provided and the funding available.
Balances are confirmed with properties and a landlord agreement must be signed. If you are approved for assistance a check will be sent directly to your rental agency or mortgage company.
Note: Balances are paid in full. If an applicant is paying a portion of their balance it must be paid prior to Rooftop making payment.
The Rooftop social worker will inform you if your application has been approved. If your documentation fails to meet the necessary requirements, you will receive a denial email along with additional resources.

Rent Assistance
Rent Assistance Requirements
Live in Davidson County, TN
Have a lease in your name
The total balance due is under $2,500. The balance should include all fees, including attorney fees. On the 25th of the month, the next month will be added to the balance
Can document a recent one-time hardship that is preventing you from paying rent or mortgage AND the resolution to the hardship
Can document sustainable income back in the home after your balance has cleared

Definitions
Document - can provide official documentation that confirms your situation. A personal written statement is not sufficient.
Recent - the event that caused you to be unable to pay rent/mortgage happened within the last 90 days or 3 months.
One-time - the event that has you unable to pay rent has happened and is over (resolved). Ongoing or reoccurring situations are not covered.
Sustainable income - the net income (what you take home after taxes, insurance, etc.) in the home must be twice (2x) the monthly rent payment. Seasonal income is not considered sustainable.
Documentation Required
Applications are not complete without all of the listed documentation. Applications are reviewed in the order in which they were submitted.
After we have received your application, applicants will have 3 business days to submit additional documentation. Any documentation not uploaded with the application may be emailed to review@rooftopnashville.org.

A current lease
Note: Rooftop cannot assist with hotels, motels, half-way houses, sober living houses, or rooming houses
A ledger this is a document that shows your rental payment history from the time you moved in until today's date. You can get one from your landlord
Hardship documentation - Must be an official document such as a receipt, separation notice, doctor's note, etc. showing why rent cannot be paid
Resolution documentation - Must be an official document. Show how rent will be paid after assistance, if different from income
All income in the household - Submit at least 3 months of pay stubs. Total income must be twice your rent to be considered

Deposit Assistance
Deposit Assistance Requirements
Unit is in Davidson County, TN
The lease will be in your name
Moving into a HUD subsidized unit ONLY
You are moving into a HUD subsidized unit after being homeless or having lived in market-rate rent
Note: Moving between Section 8 or income-based units is not covered by this grant
Section 8 units have passed inspection, if applicable
Utilities have been turned on in your name, if required
Definitions
HUD subsidized - these are units that use Section 8 vouchers or units where your rent will adjust if your income changes.

HUD paperwork showing rent is based on the current household income

Proof of Section 8 unit passing inspection, if applicable
