2024 Rooftop Criteria

In order to apply, the individual or family must:

  • live in Davidson County, TN.
  • have a lease or mortgage in their name.
  • have experienced an unexpected financial hardship that created the inability to pay the rent/mortgage and must be able to document the hardship.
  • be able to document that regular income is returning to the home and it will cover the monthly bills after assistance has ended or that rent has adjusted (when applicable).
  • demonstrate that the assistance will clear their current balance to zero.
  • may not owe more than three (3) months of rent or mortgage.

Applicants are eligible once in a 12-month period, though assistance is not guaranteed in any case.

The landlord, rental, or mortgage company will be contacted to verify your balance.

A Deposit Grant is available for those who meet the criteria above and are moving from homelessness or market-rate rent into income-based MDHA or Section 8.  The grant cannot assist with a deposit when a resident is moving between MDHA or Section 8 properties.

All of Rooftop's grants must meet the basic criteria above.  Some restricted grants may require additional documentation or have specific guidelines.
